Welcome to Earth!

Afton - We are so happy to have you here. You are gorgeous. You were born at about 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, December 27 after your mom was induced to have you come. We've been waiting and waiting for you and it's so wonderful that you're finally here. You were born 7 pounds 7 ounces and 19 inches long. You are gorgeous. You have a lot of beautiful hair. Uncle Ryan Jones and Nelson were playing Guitar Hero across the street when they got the page that you were ready to be delivered. So Ryan came over and helped bring you here.

We love you and can't wait to get to know you more.

2 Boys

On Nana's birthday, we walked in with the usual singing and breakfast in bed. The unusual part of it was that these two grandsons were old enough to laugh and giggle and hug and kiss their nana. It was so precious. Two boys, you'll soon be joined by Afton and Baby Q and many more!

Christmas Celebration

Christmas is always so much fun. We love being with family and relaxing. This Christmas entailed some special events - Christmas Eve snowmobiling at Wolf Creek Ranch thanks to the Webbers, Christmas Eve Bingo with prizes galore (too bad I didn't win the mascara), Christmas morning French toast new recipes, and hanging out with cousins.

Johnny and I exchanged camping/emergency preparedness gifts. Johnny boy was showered with toys and books. The one Christmas surprise was a picture book of Johnny boy's first year on earth. (Thank you, Oprah Winfrey for giving these away on Snapfish). It is so fun to celebrate with presents. Merry Christmas!

Thanksmas Miracle

Thanksmas is that glorious time of year when we all gather with our father somewhere and sometime that is convenient for us. It's all about flexibility, people. So this year, we gathered at our home in the second week of December and hung out. Festivities included but were certainly not limited to hanging out, a Thanksmas feast, making oatmeal cookies, watching Isaac shake his booty, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas program (hee-haw), an amazing meal at the Red Iguana, the ugly sweater contest, and reading Glenn Beck's "The Christmas Sweater" together out loud. I hope we read a book together out loud every year. It was wonderful.

So, here's to Thanksmas and spending time with your family. It really is about time. Thanks to Camille for planning everything and everyone for contributing to make it so much fun.

The day after turkey day celebration

It's getting more and more common for us to take sibling pictures with 100% attendance. I love it. Callie scheduled a big gathering for the day after Thanksgiving celebration for our extended Matheson Family. It was stress free pot-luck style with lots of catching up and chatting and rock banding and wii fitting. Jon Canlas was amazing on the hula-hoop competition. I believe the category is calorie torcher.

Grandma Jeanne and Grandpa Vernile were amazing. They brought gifts for all of the little kids but it was so great because none of the gifts were wrapped. They were set out on the table and Grandpa called kids names out of a hat and they got to go up and choose a gift. Repeat until the gifts were gone.

Johnny boy got a lot of great gifts. The Matheson grandparents are so generous. Grandma Jeanne used to have a house full of bears so the teddy bear was special more for me than for him. But I let him and his dad pick the rest of the gifts. How fun! Happy day after turkey day!

Hey baby, let's go to Vegas

We just got back from a weekend trip to Las Vegas.

It was so fun to stay at our free hotel in our free upgrade to a suite with our complimentary coconut lime verbana lotion from Bath and Body Works and our projector screen putting movies on the wall with the little patterns in the wall paper only causing confusion some of the time and the indoor rodeo arena at our hotel watching sessions of the Miss Rodeo America 2009 contest (Good luck Renae Cowley, Miss Rodeo Utah) and long naps for Johnny boy and the aquarium and the friendly scuba diver feeding the fish that waved to us and going to see the Blue Man group for student discount ticket prices sitting in the second row getting hit by mushed banana and grateful for the plastic poncho provided to protect from said banana and buying bargain $1 items at Target including a rolling pin for my kitchen while the boys went to a magic comedy show and spending $200 in free gift cards at Bass Pro Shop we earned for sitting through 90 minutes of time share presentation and walking through the M&M store while we waited for Millie and Micah to finish their 180 minutes of time share presentation and eating In-N-Out with Grandma Laura Lee and watching The Office on the drive home and only spending $22.58 to fill up the car with gasoline.

And finally, taking free family pictures with Santa. This was a fantastic trip.

Covey Family Photo Shoot

You can't even tell these are in front of our neighbor's garage and home. Thank you Jackman family! I love the shots of Johnny boy when you try to peel him out of his Nana's arms. It really gets crazy when he thinks she's leaving the room. Forget mom, forget dad. He wants Nana. And Papa with his two fingers up is reminding Johnny that they love their 2 boys.

From the mouths of babes

I asked my primary class today if they could keep a secret. The last time I did this, I told them how I got Johnny a BYU blue shirt for Father's Day and they went crazy with excitement and the responsibility of keeping a secret. This time, I let them know that I am going to have another baby in April. Immediately, from the front row, a darling little boy shouted out, "I'm telling your husband!"

So since I can't keep it a secret from Johnny anymore, I thought I'd share with everyone else. We're going to have a baby. I'm 18 weeks along and due April 13. And we're not going to find out if it's a boy or girl. We thought it would be fun to be surprised. Mom and baby are doing great and Johnny boy is training to be the best big brother ever.

Obama 2008

I was really excited to meet President elect Obama and Michelle. It was an honor to shake hands. Camille and Micah actually won the Halloween costume contest they entered and went home with $150 in their pocket.

Good luck in the White House! You're going to need it.

Happy Birthday, Johnny Boy!

Dear Johnny,

Happy Birthday, sweet heart. We love you so much. We just want to let you know that you bring so much joy into our lives. We love being with you. You smile often and bring happy into our hearts. We remember when we first brought you home from the hospital (we stopped by Wingers for dinner with Nana and Jacob on the way - hope that's a birthday tradition for your dad's sake) and we were so excited to just be with you. Now you are one year old. We would take you with us to movies or anything because you were the best behaved baby ever. When you were born, you had the cord wrapped around your neck, but uncle Ryan just took care of it quickly so no one even knew anything was wrong. You climb up the stairs like crazy. It's a game to you to get away from whoever is chasing you. You're great at standing yourself up and you're starting to walk from thing to thing. You have four teeth with a fifth just barely coming in on the top. You like to play pattie cake. You drink raw milk and eat oatmeal and peas and apples and bananas and tonight you had your first bites of spaghetti. Today you fell from the shopping cart to the ground, but you were buckled in your car seat and only got a little scrape on the head. I apologize now for any future brain damage I may have caused. You also bonked your mouth on the fireplace today but didn't hurt your teeth. Today you learned how to say, "no". I'm not quite sure how to respond when you say it. I hope today is not a sign of the times to come. I can't handle watching you get hurt. Please say you'll always wear a helmet and knee pads and elbow pads and a chin strap. Okay, I won't require the chin strap or anything else. I just want you to be safe and know that I love you. We love you.

Happy Birthday, son. You are our handsome baby boy.

Love, Mom & Dad

Happy Halloween!

Our family theme was Peter Pan. We are missing our beloved Katie, however. The group seems pathetically small without her. Maybe we will dress up again for Thanksgiving.

Johnny boy was the crocodile Captain Hook is scared of. He looked so great. Hopefully, the rest of us are obvious. More pictures to follow.
