Selfie sensation

I really appreciate finding treasures like this on my phone. So much more awesome than sticky fingers and deleted apps...

Pure love

We used to live on Love Lane in a tennis community. I hated saying that I lived on Love Lane. I tried to refer to it as 3300 North but the Post Office wouldn't go for that. I always felt like I had to explain love, as in a tennis community. But then I would reference the other streets to try to make sense of it all and Backhand Court just sounds like domestic violence. But I love tennis. Even though it means I am behind in the set, my favorite score to call out is Love-1, Love All. Get it? Love one, love all. Tennis is for sure a celestial sport. We have been playing doubles with Nana and Papa lately and the babies play in the park next to us. And then they charge the court and demand, "Feed me!" And I ask forehand or backhand? And they choose and set up and hit most of the feeds. When they miss it can usually be blamed on the feeder. Then they pick up all the balls and we go for the next round.

Tonight we were at the yellow park and the babies were ecstatic when the gentlemen playing hit a ball over the fence so they could run it down and return it to the players. We got out some of our balls and Evelyn was throwing some around and asked me in complete earnest,"Mama, is it okay if I throw these and they get stuck in the clouds?"

Love, love, love that girl. I think I am so happy because I feel so fulfilled being a mother. No doubt, it is an endurance sport and it is painful lots of times and taxing but I love those magical moments when babies say something amazing. I feel like a good person and a good mother providing awesome experiences for short people practicing how to be humans. Families rock. Thanks for sharing the parenting experience with us, Heavenly Father. It is humbling and inspiring and challenging and awesome.

Happy Birthday, Nannie!

Dearest Nancy,
We love you so much and are happy to celebrate you. You are a thoughtful and kind and wonderful woman. I liken having your perspective in my extended family. You are a strong woman. I told the kids today was your birthday and was explaining how you were Beepa's true love (we translate everything through fairy tale language over here) and how you are the Nannie that sends all the awesome toys. "Oh yeah", Johnny said. "I one who you are talking about." You are awesome. This so the picture of the boys when I told them to smile for your birthday. We love you!!!

Face lift for the Bean Museum

We hit up the Bean today to see all the new bells and whistles and I am glad it's open again. I love watching little people in awe of nature. In the north hallway they have a picture 'bout Jesus. I asked Evelyn why did they put a picture of Jesus in with all of the animals. She said, "I don't know!" And I told her how Jesus created each animal. She had a look of appreciation on her face and replied,"He needs a rest because that was a LOT of work." Thanks for your hard work, Jesus.

Almost too gross to post...Almost

The pile of hair from my first day of cutting five heads of hair in the same day. I am most proud of Davie's hair because I was the most scared of it. I did not want to have to keep cutting shorter and shorter to fix a mistake.
I was most excited to cut Johnny's hair. He said,"Mom, cut my rat tail off because it's no fair that I can't see it but other people can see it." Totally awesome. I had let him grow a rat tail because I was bribing him months ago to let me cut any part of his hair and I thought he would forget about it. 2 inches of rat tail later, he requested the cut himself. Paradox if parental submission. You eventually get what you want, people.
I took a large nap apr├Ęs les coupes de cheveaux. Exhausting. The pile of different colors of hair astounds me. How do I not have a red head? Will this next baby be red? I can't wait to see.

Sweet Girl

Whip Cream on her face and she snuck a kiss to wipe it on her dad.

Torn

Skyla leaves this week. The time with her has been so difficult. I have put so much energy into parenting her. I am grateful for the call to serve and for the calling to be over. It is a tender mercy. I am grateful. I am tired. I am sad. I am glad for the tiny glimpses of making a difference. Otherwise, I think I really would go crazy. There is a temptation to feel ineffective and incapable. And I don't choose that. Shut up, Satan. You don't even have any children. Good luck, Skyla. I hope the best for you.

If you're too school for cool...

Johnny is in a love/hate relationship with school. He sometimes tries to convince me that he's already gone to school for the day. He was excited for green day. We went for crazy green hair and it was a big success.

October Fest

It's nothing but vampires and jack o lanterns and we even have some vampire jack o lanterns here at our house. Evelyn has been singing her songs from preschool. Its adorable. Welcome October, people. Sing along like you know it. Five little pumpkins sitting on the gate. The first one said oh my its getting late. The second one said there are witches in the air. The third one said we don't care. The fourth one said lets run and run and run. The fifth one said its only Halloween fun!

Spidey donut kind of birthday

What a cutie. He is in birthday heaven with chocolate plus Spiderman. Totally awesome. Three years of awesome on earth for this kid. He brings happy and funny and violence to my heart. He is always and forever wrestling and beating up his brothers. He gave away his three foot tall dragon to his brother who asked him for it. What a rock star.
